About Me
My name is John McNamara and I am a fully qualified counsellor and a psychotherapist with a BA in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy and a certified teen and adolescant therapist with the Greenane Institute. I am fully accredited with IACP and based in Galway city and Westport, Co. Mayo
My approach in therapy is facilitating a blend of person centred approach and cognitive behavioural therapy. Person-centred therapy is about finding assistance for life’s difficulties, investigating issues that are holding an individual back and overcoming challenges by providing a safe space for an individual to explore there own sense of self discovery.
By exploring these issues, one is given the opportunity to look into issues that may be holding them back whilst exploring methods that can be incorporated to assist them in overcoming these challenges. Person centred therapy puts the individual at the forefront of their own growth and works to fulfill the desire to prosper through discovery of a greater sense of self.
In C.B.T. the person and therapist explores the way that the person’s thoughts, emotions and behaviours are connected and how they affect one another. This allows the person (with assistance, support and guidance from their therapist) to intervene at different points in this cycle and change thought patterns and behaviours which have been problematic for the person.
By working alongside each individual I incorporate these methods based on the needs and desires of the client.
My goal is to provide you with a space where you can feel safe to discuss feelings or issues without any sense of fear or judgement. I will be able to hold this space for you and assist you in navigating pertinent issues.
Perhaps you or someone in your family may benefit from a non judgemental and confidential service where one could feel free to discuss concerns that may be holding you back.
